E34 hands down. It's my favorite M5.

500E. It just seems the most unique. If it was a tossup between an E28 M5 or the 500E that would be a more difficult decision

Wow, that's tough.

S4 is my favorite-looking car of the three.

500E, like 505T said, is probably the most unique.

M5 is probably the best to drive.

I might have to go with the C4 S4, purely with the intention of shoving more boost than is reasonable down its throat and having crazy awesome sideways smokey AWD launches.

500E, for maximum asleepiness.

Not a fan of the C4 looks, and the E34 (with a really really cool engine) doesn't exude the quiet badass-ness of the 500E.

I've owned all three, I even had the UrS4 at the same time as the 500E.

The most fun was the M5. The "coolest" to me was the UrS4. But the most awesome was the 500E. The 500E had class and power and just looked mean. It was so solid and so well built. Parts are surprisingly easy to get too since it's powertrain is basically from a 500SL and the rest (except those flares body panels and special headlights) are shared with other W124's. Plus it's a real "car guy" car since most people just think it's an old beige German sedan.

My favorite thing was when two Fox Body Mustangs pulled up next to me in a 3 lane stop. They were revving at each other ignoring the 500E. When green dropped I ran them and beat them by a good margin to the next light. At that light their windows were down shouting "what the hell is in that thing?!"

Mine happened to be a grey market 1991. I miss it. I've been looking for another one recently. It's the only one of the 3 that left me wanting more of it.

With great power comes great hoonability.

As much as I love E34 M5s, I'd probably pick the 500E over it - it's far more unique and cool a car. I'd get my BMW M fix taken care of elsewhere (via some flavour of M3) - so these cars are really competing to be a luxo-cruiser with cool factor - which I think the 500E is much better at (with the added bonus of staying flying the radar with anyone who's not a true car geek)
